Fragmented Humanity

"Fragmented Humanity" is an evocative sculpture that embodies the paradox of the intrinsic interconnectedness of human beings and their detachment from the suffering of others. This paradox is tragically exemplified in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, where despite our shared humanity, we witness a troubling disconnect and indifference to the suffering of others.

Within a 1.5-meter diameter steel ring, three shattered (yet intact) glass face forms reflect the trauma that shatters the self without completely disintegrating it. These shattered faces symbolize the psychological and emotional scars borne by civilians caught in the crossfire of violence, their sense of self fractured by the horrors of war.
The six intact faces, facing different directions, symbolize humanity's indifference to the tragedies of others. Just as many around the world turn a blind eye to the plight of Palestinians and Israelis trapped in this cycle of violence, these impassive faces represent our collective failure to empathize with those who suffer.
The circular ring represents the perpetual state of fragmentation and reintegration that defines the evolving shifts of our identities through life's journey - from birth to our eventual return to the original source. In the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this ring symbolizes the cyclical nature of violence, where trauma begets further trauma, and the fragmentation of communities and identities perpetuates itself across generations.
Just as the shattered faces within the ring reflect the trauma of those caught in the conflict, the intact faces symbolize the indifference of those who turn a blind eye to their suffering. This sculpture serves as a powerful reminder that our shared humanity should transcend borders and political divides, and that true peace can only be achieved when we recognize and empathize with the suffering of others, regardless of their background or circumstance.
